Default Domestic Pet

Here is a fun idea to play around with...

Beside the ranger's pet and the mini's, add a new type of pet, the Domestic Pet. It would be a small animal (like a puppy, kitty, bird, bunny, squirrel, etc) that would run around you, much akin to the minis. also they would stay in your inventory (or a pet slot), untill you "let them out". They won't do much in battle (but think would be fun to give them a very very small effect, like the brid will heal you 1 hp ever 30 second, things like that), and are more for show, and for you to raise. You could:

Teach them tricks!
Will have few basic trick emots like /puppysit. But can earn new pet-tricks from quest or purchas.

Feed Them!
You could get the pet foods from shops (or the more rare one from a collector or doing quest). With constant care and feeding, it will make them be a bit bigger. Also it would change their fur color/pattern, depend on what combination of food you feed them. (this change will not be instant, but over long period of time)

Show them in town!
Allow them to be show/let out in town as well, and you can show off your tricks or special coating to others.

Pet Emotions!
The pet will have its own emotions too. So if they are happy and like you, they will run around you and yap/meow/chip more, while if they don't like you, they might not do the trick or help you in battle.

Help you in Battle!
Well, as said, the effect will be barely noticeble. Things like +1 hp ever 30 seconds, or +1 damage to a target every 20 seconds... etc. Of couse, this might also make them more hungry.

Pet Items!
Special pet related item you could get, like shirts and hat to dress up your pet, or pet toys to let them play with.

Player Pet Contest
This give the player oppertunity to make their own pet contest, like Beauty, tircks, or even fights (work much like rock-papper-scissor), etc.

Granted that GW is not Nintendog, but it give certain player who like this type of thing something to be excited about. (afterall, since you cann't go beyond the lv cap, need something else to develop at). Also add in more social life like activity into GW, beside just the killing and more killing. Of couse, won't really expected this to make it into the game, but still think its a fun idea.

Well seeing as we already have minis, I don't know. Currently minis can walk, run, and get knocked down, I do feel like they should have emotes and do something more. So I partly like the idea, maybe pet items is taking it a little too far, but definitely needs some more stuff to go on with mini pets.

It's nice idea but:
Quote:
Show them in town!
Allow them to be show/let out in town as well, and you can show off your tricks or special coating to others.
Its not going to happen because of lag/bodyblock and because of that rest of suggested features lose their purpose.

Oh, just to clearfy...
Domestic pets will not be mini monsters. they are more of a in-game world creatures, like puppy or kitty... and not a 1/8th scale Prince Rurik that you can tell him to jump loop with.
(it make it eaiser and more univeral to add the emots and skin/color alteration)

Why not just have emotes for your tamed pets? Rather than a puppy or a kitty that would eat up yet another slot why not have it for tamed pets? I'm not against the idea for domestic pets, but I'd like to see my pet bear /sit or my UW spider /jump etc etc.

Thats fun, but yeah thats about it, we have Mini's.

I'd rather have a GW Resident Pet, such as the Frog, but compleatly AI, doesn't have to say anything and just wonderes around ALL maps, only one place at once.

But say for example, *Boris* is in Snakedance at the moment, then anybody in SnakeDance at that time will See Boris.

Sort of Like A Super Easter Egg.

But thats just me.

There are reasons why I didn't apply that to the Ranger's Pet and Minis....

1) Its been suggested before

2) They are not universal model for all, meaning there are too many differnt type of Ranger Pet or Minis, so any new emots that is to apply to one must also apply to rest. So forth for skin color and such.

3) Ranger pet are too exclusive, meaning you need to be a ranger proffession to have them. Domestic pet allow everyone to get them.

4) Mini are exclusive too, as some people have them and some not. Also they seem more of a toy than as a creature of game's world.

5) Seem people like fluffy cute litte pet better. So in logic... Cute fluffy pet attracte girl gamer, who attract male gamer, anet make more money.

6) So not to change the current system that is already in place.

---------------------------------------------------
I like the Resident Pet too, Koala

Jack,

Just because there are "pets for everyone" People are not goign to buy the game just for that.

Good idea, too much work for not enough revenu.

Unless you sell them threw the online store. Otherwise It won't happen, Even there.

And the idea to attract more female players to attract more male players.... it's assinine. It's not a dating Service, and if you ar eonly able to attract Women threw the game, or play the game because of the possibility of women I have a few things to say:

1- Turn off the game
2-Wait untill your 16th birthday.
3- During that time, go run around, outside, take up jogging, Enter the running club at school / track team many girls there, And You'll be active, they like active.

You do know that is more-the-less a joke right?
However, ways to attrach female gamer (example by RO, Nintendogs) do help to expend the target buyers, which help sell more games. Of couse, that is not the primary reason behind having domestic pet. Its afterall, a thing to add on to game play.

Who says all girls want cute little pets? Sure maybe the 13-16 female Demographic Would LOVE that above all else in the game, But I highly doupt that people that age are the key buyers of this Series.

You want pets that do commands and such? You said it yourself : Nintendo Dogs.

Don't change the gameplay. The best change is no change at all.

This si what the agmeplay of Guild Wars is:
Lvl up to 20, Acquire skills to win threw startagy and skill.

Not Play time with Poochie.

As soon as you change your focus from one thing to another, its not GW anymore, Its Tamagotchi and Dinky Dino.

The only difference is the Graphics.

This is GW, not Pokémon.

A bit off topic for now, but asking Koala, as I seen few of your post/replies around here. (usually its to say nay to some of the more radical ideas). What is your philosophy in improving GW?

Well, I guess the above says it all, but would you agree/disagree that same type of game play tend to bore people?
(not saying this would be the one of couse.. see my last paragraph in OP)

I do agree that the overall focus should remain the same, but also need something on the side to entertain them.

It's called a generalisation for a reason. He was attempting to give a broad reason behind her thoughts, since you seem to like to nitpick.

Unfortunately GW seems to be a dynamic game. Even if the game abilities themselves don't change, the players will. Players will come up with new strategies and ideas which will change gameplay.

Why is Koala poking at AJ so much? Allergic to poochie?

And yet people use this game for the following purposes: chatroom, dancing, idiots that try to find girlfriends, people that beg/play instruments for money. Give people options and they will use them. Some people use this as nothing more than a glorified chatroom. But thats how they have fun.

If I really wanted to nitpick, I could explain in detail how Pokemon, GW, and most rpgs are similar at the most basic levels. But I won't.

AJ: Apparently ideas similar to this have worked in other games, and I think it would be nice to see animals in town(I'm waiting to see what minipet my char gets on his birthday still). Since I see no inherent problems with implimenting this(other than the in-town lag), I say go for it.

But thats just my two cents

I did give my opinion, even if I did not say signed or unsigned. And the only reason I nitpicked at you was because you were attempting to make an argument, and were doing it very poorly.

so /signed if I must spell it out for you.

There should be ways to fix the lag problems for having pets/domestic pets/minipets in towns.
I don't see a 'pet battle' arena coming to GW, but it wouldn't hurt anything to have some minigames for when people get bored.
The affects of having a pet on combat would be neglible(sp?) so there should be no problem there.
emotes? sure that would be fun to have pet emotes
Feed them? Can anyone say gold sink?Anet likes those.
Pet items? mm.Don't see those happening, just as I don't see the pet contest/battle thing. Imo it would be making the minigame too involved.

And just in case nobody understands, the above text represents my opinion.Translation: Thats my two cents on the matter.
